N.V. Johan Nicolaï

1982
Johan Nicolaï takes over the nursery activities from his father, Jo Nicolaï. Jo Nicolaï started cultivating fruit trees in 1963. In 1967 he was the first to introduce a bi-coloured apple in Belgium (Jonathan crossed with Golden Delicious). The Jonagold cultivar was developed in Geneva, New York.

1984
Establishment of N.V. Johan Nicolaï, for both the cultivation of fruit trees and the breeding and introduction of fruit.

2007
Fruit tree cultivator N.V. Johan Nicolaï and the University of Leuven work together to introduce the Kanzi® - Nicoter (c.o.v.) and Greenstar® - Nicogreen (c.o.v.) around the world.

2009
N.V. Johan Nicolaï moves to its current site at Lichtenberglaan 2050 in Sint-Truiden.

2010
N.V. Johan Nicolaï introduces Milenga® - Early Jonagold (c.o.v.), an early Jonagold mutation, Gala Royal Beaut® - Proselect (c.o.v.), a striped Gala mutation and Pirouette® - Rubinstep (c.o.v.), a low-residue variety.

2012
Laura Nicolaï, Johan’s daughter, joins the company, thereby ensuring the future of the business.
2014
Vincent Nicolaï, Johan’s eldest son, joins the team.
